Champagne house Krug
The 'savoir-faire' of Champagne House Krug
Champagne House Krug has been in existence for over 170 years and is among the top champagne brands. The small champagne house exclusively produces high-quality prestige champagnes in a relatively small quantity.
Founder Joseph Krug had his own unconventional vision of champagne, and his philosophy still lives on in the company. He aspired to find a method to produce a top champagne every year, regardless of the climate conditions in that vintage. The savoir-faire of Joseph Krug is documented in his famous red notebook. Krug's champagne regularly dominates the Top 10 of the Best Champagne Ever.
Krug Champagnes
The Krug Grande Cuvée Brut Champagne exemplifies Krug's philosophy, featuring a blend of over 120 reserve wines (vin de réserve) from at least ten different vintages. The extended aging of the champagne for a minimum of 6 years in the cellars beneath Reims imparts a refined, complex taste with a very fine mousse.
It wasn't until 1983 that the Rosé champagne joined the collection. Krug's Rosé is a unique, elegant champagne with notes of dried fruit, citrus, and honey. This champagne can be enjoyed with meals as an alternative to red wine.
In addition to flavor suggestions, Krug also provides a music suggestion for each bottle of champagne. Krug has developed a Krug app that offers advice on which dishes pair best with the champagne and provides corresponding music suggestions.

The History of Krug Champagne House
Johan Joseph Krug, with the support of Joseph de Vives, founded the house in 1843 under the name Champagnehuis Krug & Compagnie. Together with the renowned wine merchant Joseph de Vives, Joseph Krug developed a method to create a prestige champagne every year, regardless of the climate conditions in that particular year.
This led to a revolutionary method, focusing on assembling a selection of the finest grapes from multiple harvest years. This method went against the established rules of champagne production. The red notebook in which Johan Joseph Krug documented his vision and method has since served as a guide for the generations of Krug who have been running the champagne house until today.
Krug remains the only champagne house that achieves this. The process begins with the very strict selection of grapes, using only the cuvée, the first pressing. This method results in an elegance and complexity that would be impossible with wines produced in a single vintage.
While the house is still under the leadership of the youngest generation of Krug, it came under the ownership of LVMH, Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, in 1999, which owns some of the biggest champagne brands.
