Champagne house G.H. Mumm
The Champagne with the Red Ribbon
Similar to Veuve Clicquot and Roederer, Mumm produces champagne in the 'Style de Reims,' champagnes that are assembled with a significant proportion of pinot noir. Thus, like most champagne houses in Reims, Mumm is a typical pinot noir house. The diagonal red ribbon 'Cordon Rouge' has been on the label since 1876 and is characteristic of Mumm's house style. In the beginning, the bottles were adorned with a red silk ribbon, and later, the ribbon was incorporated into the label and logo. The use of the ribbon is inspired by the distinctions awarded in France by the Legion of Honor, the 'Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur,' which is the most important and highest French decoration.G.H. The Brut Cordon Rouge is the best-selling champagne from the house. Mumm's brut champagne is a clear champagne, light golden-yellow in color with very fine foam. A fresh champagne characterized by aromas of peach and apricot, with hints of lychee and pineapple. It is composed of 45% pinot noir, 25% pinot meunier, and 30% chardonnay, with a share of 25 to 30% reserve wines.
Mumm's Demi-Sec is a champagne with a significant proportion of pinot meunier and a salmon-pink color. The Demi-Sec has a composition of 60% pinot meunier, 30% pinot noir, and 10% chardonnay. A champagne with a slightly sweet taste, perfect to serve with sweet dishes or as a dessert wine with the final course.
