The Dom Pérignon by champagne atelier Moët & Chandon
Dom Pérignon, the Prestige Cuvée of Moët & Chandon
The Dom Pérignon champagne is a prestige cuvée from the Champagne house Moët & Chandon. It is a vintage, a champagne exclusively produced with the very best grapes from exceptionally good wine years.
Take the Dom Pérignon vintage 2006, for instance, an exquisite and mild champagne crafted with an assemblage of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay. The Dom Pérignon vintage rosé from 2005 achieves a beautiful balance through a perfect blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, paying homage to the Pinot Noir grape. The Dom Pérignon vintage 2009 is a delightfully fresh and energetic champagne, thanks to the exceptionally warm weather conditions of 2009. In that harvest year, the grapes reached optimal ripeness and were rich in flavor, resulting in this very tasty champagne.
Monk and Cellar Master Dom Pérignon
The Dom Pérignon champagne is named after the Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon, who played a crucial role as a cellar master in the development of champagne in the 17th century. Monk Dom Pérignon lived from 1638 to 1715, and his mission was to create the finest wine in the world. Due to his dedication and passion, many called him 'the father of champagne.' While Dom Pérignon was long considered the inventor of sparkling wine, he was not the discoverer of champagne. As a cellar master at the Benedictine monastery in Hautvillers, he pioneered the development of groundbreaking new techniques for making champagne. His techniques eventually laid the foundation for the 'méthode champenoise,' now known as the 'méthode traditionelle.'
The History of Dom Pérignon Champagne
Dom Pérignon developed and refined the production method of champagne, perfecting the technique of viticulture, grape pressing, blending, and the production of clear sparkling white wine from red grapes. In addition to these innovations in the production process, he also introduced the cork to the bottle. Closing the champagne bottle with a cork significantly improved its shelf life (previously sealed with wood), and the bubbles were better preserved even after the second fermentation, during which carbon dioxide is produced in the bottle. He also developed the champagne bottle with thicker glass to prevent bottle explosions.
An Exclusive Champagne for Connoisseurs
Dom Pérignon champagne is the flagship of the Moët & Chandon Champagne house. It is an exclusive champagne brand in the higher price range, offering only vintage champagnes made from exceptionally high-quality grapes harvested in particularly good years. This exclusivity makes Dom Pérignon champagne popular among the jet set, aristocracy, sheiks, millionaires, and movie stars.
