Champagne house Taittinger
Taittinger Champagne House, a Young Champagne House
The relatively young Taittinger Champagne House was founded in 1931 by Pierre Taittinger. With his innovative style, he introduced a champagne to the market that is rich in Chardonnay and is characterized by its finesse, refinement, and aromatic complexity.
Pierre Taittinger came from a family of politicians and bankers. In the early '30s, he acquired various vineyards, including the beautiful Chateau Les Folies de la Marquetterie, south of Épernay. The exclusive champagne Les Folies de la Marquetterie is one of the refined champagnes produced with grapes from this vineyard. When he also purchased Forest-Fourneux, Pierre Taittinger suddenly owned an extensive hectare of prestigious vineyards. Forest Fourneux was a small but excellent champagne house founded in Reims in 1734 by Jacques Fourneux.
The Champagnes of the Taittinger Family Business
The Champagne house is still owned by the Taittinger family and has been led by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger since 2006. In addition to the well-known Brut Réserve, Taittinger offers several special cuvées known for their elegance and freshness. The Prestige Rosé champagne stands out for its subtle and harmonious taste. The Taittinger Prélude Grands Crus has a full and powerful flavor with a long finish. The Taittinger Nocturne Sec is a refreshing champagne with a soft finish, and it also comes in a delightful Rosé champagne variant. The Millésime Brut vintage champagne from 2008 is a blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir, with a significant proportion of Grand Cru and Premier Cru. It is a fruity, powerful champagne with a fine finish. The packaging design for these champagnes is notably striking and innovative. A special edition of the Taittinger Nocturne Sec champagne has been released with a champagne bottle in a highly exclusive design.
The Taittinger Collection
François Taittinger took over the leadership in 1942. He continued to invest until the champagne house owned over 250 hectares of vineyards by 1960. Currently, they own over 288 hectares. The family also invested in other sparkling wines in the Loire and California and owned several luxury hotels. In the 1980s, the Taittinger Collection was launched, featuring a series of special editions in designer packaging created by world-renowned artists such as Lichtenstein, Vasarely, and Arman.
