Champagne house Lanson
Champagne Makers Since 1760
Champagne house Lanson was established in 1760, making it one of the oldest champagne houses. The family-owned business is located on the outskirts of the champagne city Reims and ranks among the top 20 largest champagne houses. François Delamotte was the founder of the champagne house. His son, Nicolas-Louis Delamotte, succeeded him and added the Maltese cross to the Lanson logo, paying homage to the Order of Malta, the charitable organization Nicolas-Louis Delamotte was associated with.
Champagne Supplier to Queen Victoria
Throughout the centuries, the name of the champagne house has changed several times. When Nicolas-Louis Delamotte was succeeded by Jean-Baptiste Lanson, the champagne house continued under the name JB Lanson & Company. In 1855, his son and successor Victor-Marie Lanson transformed it into Lanson Père et Fils. Lanson has been a 'Royal Warrant Holder' since 1900. Victor-Marie Lanson had connections with the British Royal Family and Queen Victoria, securing Lanson as the official supplier to the British Royal Family in 1900 and later to the royal family of Monaco.
Unique Collection of Reserve Wines
Under the leadership of Victor Lanson, who took over in 1928, the first Black Label was introduced, and the first rosé champagne was assembled. His son Etienne Lanson started the unique collection of reserve wines in 1967, which the winery still utilizes. The collection includes unique vintage champagnes dating back to 1904. Etienne Lanson continued the champagne house with Jean-Paul Gandon, who served as the cellar master for 30 years. Since 2015, Hervé Dantan has been the Chef de Caves of Lanson.
The Style of Chef de Cave Hervé Dantan
In over 260 years, Lanson has developed its own distinctive style, where wines are individually vinified, and instead of malolactic fermentation, the champagne undergoes aging for a minimum of 5 years in oak barrels. Under the guidance of Chef de Cave Hervé Dantan, Lanson's special style has further evolved. Lanson champagnes are known for being fruity, elegant, and well-balanced.
Wimbledon Champagne
Since 1977, Lanson has been associated with The Championships at Wimbledon. Since 2001, Lanson has been the champagne of choice served at the prestigious tennis tournament. Special Limited Editions with a Wimbledon theme are regularly released.
