Champagne house Armand de Brignac
Armand de Brignac from the House of Cattier
The prestige cuvées of Armand de Brignac are crafted by Jean-Jacques and Alexandre Cattier, the 10th and 11th generations of the family-owned business Cattier in Chigny-les-Roses. They own 33 hectares of vineyards that are HVE level 3 certified. The Cattier house has a history of wine production dating back to 1763 when the family started wine production in the vineyards of Montagne de Reims. From 1918, the winery also began producing champagne. With 250 years of experience, the house specializes in selecting the very best grapes.
Head of the Blend (Tête de Cuvée)
Jean-Jacques Cattier and his son Alexandre embarked on a mission to create an outstanding prestige cuvée that exclusively unites the very best from the region, a tête de cuvée crafted for connoisseurs. In pursuit of this mission, they introduced Armand de Brignac to the market in 2006, a relatively young champagne brand. The distinctive gold bottle was designed by André Courrèges.
Ace of Spades Champagne
The name of this champagne, 'Armand de Brignac,' was chosen as a tribute to Jean-Jacques's mother, Nelly Cattier. She registered this name in 1950 with the intention of using it for a new wine. She took the name from a novel featuring the character M. De Brignac. This incident had faded into the background, but when the house began producing the new prestige cuvée in 2005, the name was brought back into play. The champagne with this name has since become a household name. Armand de Brignac champagne is also known as 'Ace of Spades,' a nickname referring to the tin logo shaped like an ace of spades.
Popular Champagne in Pop Culture and Top Sports
Since the striking gold bottle appeared in the music video "Show Me What You Got" by rapper Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) in 2006, the champagne has become immensely popular in the rap scene and the American jet set. Before that, the 'Cristal' by Roederer was a favorite, but it was boycotted by Jay-Z after the CEO of champagne house Roederer made negative comments about the association of Roederer Cristal with the rap world. In 2014, Jay-Z became a major owner of the Armand de Brignac champagne brand.
Armand de Brignac is the only champagne brand with a 'Midas' champagne bottle (named after King Midas from Greek mythology, who turned everything he touched into gold). The Armand de Brignac Brut Gold Midas bottle, containing 30 liters of champagne, has frequently appeared at luxury parties hosted by renowned artists and sports clubs.
